The Hunger for God

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
Proverbs 16: 23 (KJV)

Text: Proverbs 16: 23 - 26

I want to ask us today to always think before we speak. It is important that we learn how to communicate, how to speak to one another. When there is strife and we don’t speak with one another then there will be chaos. It is important we talk to each other with decorum, with respect. The problem with a lot of us is that we carry a lot of things all the time.

Verse 24 says “kind words are easy to accept”. Kind words is a strategic key to good health. We should learn to be kind to people, to everyone we come in contact with. There are quiet a number of things that the holy spirit can do but then also there are a lot of things that we must also do.
Verse 25 says, “there is a way that seems good to us but it leads to death”. Many of the times people want their right to stand even though it may not be right. The way may seem right to you but then is it right to God? We need to learn to let go of things, let everything about self be diminish.
The wisdom of God is like foolishness to man. If God is asking us to do things then we must do it. Let us then ask that God give us the grace to tolerate people.

Verse 26 “the thought hunger keeps the worker working” As workers in the vine yard of God what are the things we are hungry for? What are the things that are driving you? Are you only hungry for the things of the flesh? Are you hungry for the things of God? Are you hungry for the things of the spirit?

God is looking for those who will put their heart in Him, those people who will hunger for those things after His heart. He is looking for you and for me. Remember His words, “seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and ALL other things will be added to you”.

The disciplined worker

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 2: 1-3 KJV

If we want our works to outlive us into the next and many other generations, we must be disciplined. We must be mindful of the fact that our life is not our own but is given to us each day for a purpose.
We must empower ourselves with the tools to finish our race and win the war with life. The Word says we wrestle not against flesh and blood; that the weapon of our warfare is not carnal. Therefore, it is important for us to stay the course, maintain a disciplined mindset ensuring that our purpose is achieved.

As leaders either in our home, church, place of work, community gathering we must not fail to commit unto others that which we have heard from Christ, ensuring that they too are empowered to teach this to others.

We are not to wait for others to tell us to do the right thing, even when others are not there we must be always walk on the path of truth. Let’s try to make our life an example to those in our circle.
Give everybody the respect that they deserve. We should remember that as leaders we live in a glass house, people are looking at us and watching how we live and what we do. They would take their cue from what they see us do and how we do it.

In spite of whatever battle of life we face, we must not let this affect living a right and disciplined life. A life that is a good example and reflection of who God is.

Life is a privilege!

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.4  14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11: 13-16 KJV

A young man a few weeks ago woke up in the morning, got dressed and went out. He came back had a shower, changed and was home to relax after a hard day. But he didn’t live to see the end of the day. It is a privilege to be alive but a lot of us take this privilege for granted. If things are not working well for us we blame the circumstances or the people around us for the things happening in our life. It is nobody’s fault, but yourself. It boils down to our attitude to life. It is all about you and how we chose to react to and accept the things that happen in our life.

The Bible says the fore runners of faith believed God to the end. The earth is not your home and so we are to live our lives to count for the home we would spend eternity in. It is important for us to make sure that the life we live counts and is relevant.

You know what? When a person dies, those alive forgets about him/her. Even from the preparation of the funeral the forgetting begins because life is nothing and there is nothing in this life.

Whatever life you have let us use it well. Avoid all those things that would make you miss your way. Remove from you the spirit of arrogance, pride, lying and all other vices.

What you need is to “MAKE LIFE COUNT”. Set your priorities right. Serve God well and serve Him properly. If you are not interested in serving God, don’t bother, Serve God because He deserved to be served. Serve Him in spite of your pain, in spite of your suffering, in spite of whatever challenges you are going through.

It is important that that we take God serious if we want to take him serious. Go into communion with Him, be one with God.

Are you working hard or smart?

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:......................... And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1: 1-8

Work hard and work wise. It is important to be smart about how we work, we can work hard and not smart. A lot of us are very hard workers but as we work we use brute force and not wisdom. The hard worker is like a man given a task to dig 4 holes and fill them up. He digs the first hole and moves to the second spot, he digs the second hole and uses it to fill the first hole and continues this way. He has ended us working hard but not smartly.

What do we need to work with wisdom?

  1. Vision: We need to have a clear vision of where we are going, and this vision is needed very early. We must be clear in  our mind about this vision
  2. Clarity of mind: We must be so clear in our mind about where we want our life to go. It is important to be determined about the things we do and how we do it. It is important to know what the environment we live in requires. As a Christian worker we must understand what we are dealing with and they are doing it.
  3. Understanding: It is important for us to understand the times, and apply the wisdom of God.
  4. Purpose: We must fulfill our purpose in life. Everyone of us was born with a purpose, we must identify what this purpose, understand the purpose, discover what we need to fulfill it and fulfill the purpose.
  5. The power of the Holy Spirit: To fulfill purpose we must have power. What power do we need? The power of that the holy spirit gives us. How do we have this power? We must be united and in one accord moving together toward the fulfillment of purpose. When the power of the holy spirit is on us, it gives us financial freedom, power of our minds, power over our body, dominion, power over our emotions.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Act 1:14 KJV. As we walk in the leading of the Holy Spirit we are to continue in prayer until that time of achieving goal has been reached. The Apostles had a common purpose and a common vision. The worked and waited to be equipped before they moved out. As Christians, it is important that even though we must work smart in the wisdom of the Spirit, we are to also equip ourselves with the necessary skills and power needed to succeed and fulfill purpose.

What is the tool for equipping ourselves? This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8 KJV.

  1. We must speak the word into our life and the work we do
  2. We must meditate upon the word every time and everywhere
  3. Observation is key to success
  4. Do as the word says
The 4 points about is a key to "for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." The Christian success is not just any success. It is a "good success". Very different from just any ordinary success. Our success doesn't have sorrow attached to it. We would not have the need to look over our shoulder in fear or anticipation.

This is where working wise and been equipped does to us. Why not check yourself today? Are you working hard or working smart?
